    History / Bio:

    John R. Leeth, a highly respected citizen of Harrison township, is a native of Pike county, Ohio, and dates his birth from the 11th of February, 1850. His parents, Perry and Lydia (Parker) Leeth, were of Irish origin and reared their son to manhood on the farm, giving him a common school education. In 1881 he removed to this county, where he has since resided, and owns a good farm, which is well cultivated. The marriage of Mr. Leeth with Miss Almira Rose, the daughter of William and Malinda J. Roberts, of German extraction, occurred on the 31st of December, 1876, and unto this union have been born these children: Algon (deceased), Lydia J. Lenora, Fairy, Andrew A., and Michael M. Mrs. Leeth was born in Gallia county, Ohio, June 26 1828. Her husband is a democrat, and the family are members of the United Brethren church.

    John married Almira Rose on 31 Dec 1876 in Pike County, Ohio, United States.     Mack Leeth
    Dies At 72
    Andrew McClellan Leeth was born September 20 1887 in Paulding County, Ohio the son of John and Almira Leeth, and departed this life January 21, 1960 at the age 0f 72 years, 4 months and 11 Jays.
    At the age of 17 Mack with his parents and family came to Clare county and settled on the farm in Sheridan Township where he lived until death excepting four years he spent in Colorado, from 1926 to 1930 because of ill health.
    He was united in marriage to Mabel Garver June 7, 1910 and to this union were born four children: Edna Hutchinson, Emma Carncross, Forrest Leeth and Marguerite Kleiner, alll of rural Clare.
    Nine years ago his health began to fail and for the past four years almost, he had been a bed patient. Two years ago he and his wife went to the home of their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Everet Carncross where he passed away.
    Everything that kind hands and loving hearts could do was done in caring for him.
    He was a kind husband and father and became a Christian many years ago and united with the Eagle Church of God where he held membership.
    Besides his faithful wife and children eh leaves to mourn his passing 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, two sisters; Mrs. Lenora Cramley of Antwerp, Ohio and Mrs. Madonna Stevens of Lnsing, one brother: Giles Leeth of Newaygo, nieces and nephews and a host of neighbors and friends.
    Three sisters and two brothers precede him in death.
    Funeral Services were held Monday 2:00 p.m. at the Thurston Funeral Home in Clare, Rev. Elza Beery officiating assisted by Rev. Mrs. Lou Beery. He was laid to rest in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

    Madonna Grace Stevens, 73, of St. Petersburg Florida died at the Memorial Center Hospital in that city on May 22, following a seven weeks illness.
    Born January 11, 1897 in Ohio she moved to Clare in 1903 with her parents John and Elmira Leeth
    She was married to Ralph A. Stevens in Clare in 1917 and he passed away in July 1946.
    She is survived by one daughter Mrs. Robert Crisson (Ida May) of St. Petersburg Florida, 10 grandchildren, three. great grandchildren, one brother, Giles Leeth of Freemont Michigan.
    Funeral services were held from the Stephenson Doherty Funeral Home on Monday, May 25 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jack Gray officiating and burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

    Giles Leeth
    Giles E. Leeth, 75, of 306 E 6th Street in Clare, passed away on November 10th at his residence following a two-year illness.
    He was born on August 7th, 1899 in Antwerp, Ohio to John and Almira (Rose) Leeth and married Wava M. Turner on April 23rd, 1920 in Clare.
    A retired tool and die maker, he moved to Clare from Lansing in 1971.
    Surviving are his wife, Wava, four sons, Garth of Santa Barbara, Californis; Zane of Rockville, Maryland, K.A. Of Lansing, and Loy of San Diego; a daughter, Mrs. Dexter Pridmore of Columbus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held on November 13th at the Stephenson-Doherty Funeral Home Reverend Frank Humphrey officiated burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

    Giles married Wava Mae Turner on 23 Oct 1920 in Clare, Michigan, United States.
