    Obituary:

    JUDGE LEETH
    Passes Away After Long Illness.
Judge Darius Leeth of the Probate court of this county answered the death summons Wednesday morning at 3 a.m., after a long illness from consumption.
He was born in Pike county April 28th., 1846 and was therefore 57 years, 10 months and 25 days old at the time of his death. He grew to manhood in his native county but later he removed to Logan county where he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Wren. They came to Paulding county about 30 years ago and have since resided here. He leaves a wife and a large family of grown children to mourn his decease.
Judge Leeth was resident of Harrison township for many years where he held positions of trust repeatedly, always with fairness and fidelity. In 1893 he was favored by the Republican party with the nomination for probate judge and was elected by a large majority. Defeated for his second term by the narrow margin of 12 votes, his party again honored him with the nomination in 1899 and he was triumphantly elected and again re-elected in 1902. At the time of his death he was serving his third term in that important office with honesty, fidelity and popularity with the people.
Judge Leeth was an honest, honorable, upright man. Voluomns could be written of his splendid character and exemplary life as a citizen without over-doing the subject. Judge Leeth's spiritual character is best illustrated by this brief paragraph kindly handed to us by his pastor.
"Judge Leeth for a number of years was skeptical in regard to christianity. Confused by the sects of christendom and the various creeds, he had abanded hope of understanding religious matters and had concluded that God did not require an open profession of men. But in 1896 under the preaching of Victor W. Dorris he was led to see that 'God calls all men everywhere to repent and turn to God.' Accordingly on Dec., 16th., of that year he was baptised in Christ by G. B. Townsend. H has been for a number of years a deacon in the Church of Christ in Paulding and died as he expressed himself, without fear, but sorry that he could not do more good in the world."
The funeral will occur on Friday afternoon under the auspices of Widow's Son Lodge F. & A. M. of which he was a devoted member, from the Christian church, its pastor Rev. Chas. Darsie officiating and his remains will be interred in Live Oak Cemetery.
The family have the true sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.

The floral offerings were rich and profuse and breathed a perfume of peace over the scene.

    OBITUARY
Died at Noon Last Friday and Buried on Sunday.
...John Leeth was born in Paulding County, Ohio, October 5, 1876, and departed this life in the town of Paulding February 24, 1905, aged 28 years, 4 months and 19 days. His boyhood was spent upon the farm, but about 12 years ago he came to Paulding and has resided here most of the time since. For several years he acted as Deputy clerk in Probate Court and performed the duties of the office with perfect efficiency and with satisfaction to all concerned. On the 14th of May, 1908, he was married to Lela Barber. The beautiful dream of long years of health and domestic bliss so natural to the newly wedded, and in this case anticipated by all, was never to be realized. A few short months passed by and then health failed and a change of climate was sought in hope of recovery. This was only partial when he returned after a three months stay in the mountains of the far west. Again last July in the hope of prolonging his life he once more sought the light air of the high altitudes but only to meet with disappointment for he steadily declined in strength until three weeks ago when he returned to Paulding almost in a dying condition.
...About four months ago he resolved in his heart to accept Christ as his Savior. Since then according to his own testimony he has made a constant effort to live acceptable to God. In his last days he expressed perfect trust in his Savior and declared he was ready to depart this life at any time the summons might come. With this testimony on his lips and in his dying moments a prayer to the Heavenly Father to receive him he has gone from us and entered "That bourne from which no traveller returned."
...Besides his immediate relatives a large circle of friends will mourn his premature death. Perhaps the largest congregation that ever gathered in the Methodist church to attend a funeral service assembled there Sabath afternoon to pay a last tribute of respect to him. After the service, which was conducted by Rev. J. A. Hoffman, the remains were laid to rest in Live Oak cemetery.

    CARD OF THANKS
God in his infinite wisdome has seen fit to call our relative unto himself and we bow in humble submission to His will knowing that all he does is for the best. In our sad hour many friends and neighbors assisted us and also tendered words of sympathy. In return for all this we wish, in our weak way, to make partial amends by tendering them our most heartfelt sympathy. That God may ever be merciful unto them for their kindness toward us is our earnest
    Mrs. John Leeth,
    Mrs. D. Leeth and Children.

John married Lela Elbertine Barber on 14 May 1902 in Paulding County, Ohio, United States. Lela was born on 13 Jan 1879 in Delaware County, Ohio, United States; died on 19 Jan 1959 in Circleville, Pickaway County, Ohio, United States; was buried on 22 Jan 1959 in Paulding, Paulding County, Ohio, United States. OBITUARY
    DEATH OF "ISA" LEETH
Well Known Paulding Young Lady Passed Over.
...Isadore Leeth, daughter of Darius and Mary A. Leeth, was born in Harrison township, Paulding county, March 10, 1884; died in Paulding, Ohio, Feb. 19, 1909, aged 34 years, 11 months and 9 days.
...Her family moved to Paulding when Judge Leeth assumed the duties of Probate Judge, where she attended school, leaving the high school to do office work for her father. In the fall of 1904 she entered the Tri-State College at Angola and finished a business course, returning home in the summer of 1905. She was baptized and received into the First Methodist Episcopal church, Paulding, January 17, 1909.
...Her health began to fail in Feb. Of 1908, and for a year she was a constant and patient sufferer until relieved of her pain last Friday morning by the Father of mercy and love. Her mother, three sisters and three brothers survive her, her father and one brother having preceded her to the home above.
...The facts which are here recorded do not hold the secret of this life of four and twenty years. The rich beauty of this life is not found in externalities, but in its inward graces. It is the soul that speaks to us and gives to us a vision of eternal things. The unseen things of her christian faith took from death its sting, and from the grave its victory. During the months of her sickness there was crystalized in her soul-a most beautiful Christian experience. Her reception into the church was preceded by the knowledge that Christ had personally saved her, and by the resignation born of the Spirit in the soul. She experienced religious truth and felt its mighty power in her life. She percieved __?__ with spiritual insight and understood the Spirit message to her failing strength, Christ __?__ as a fragrant flower and Heaven was a possession of her soul before the angels bore her immortal spirit home to God.
...Her christian experience gave to her failing strength an eternal beauty. It was eternal certainty that spoke, not wan cheeks. It was the voice of the soul that gave to her pale face a glow so hopeful and luminous as to make one forget that the silver cord of her life was being loosened and the golden bowl broken. It gave to her youthful life the beauty of resignation. It enabled her to surrender a life full of comforts and friends and youthful joys without a murmur or sigh. Before the icy hand of death laid its power upon the full bloom of her life, it was surrendered to God. The Christ of Calvary was her reward. Death was a welcome messenger and was the angel spirit that bore her to that New Country, that is, an heavenly.
...The funeral service was held at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Paulding, O., Sunday afternoon at 3:30, conducted by Rev. W. T. Stockstill, assisted by Rev. J. G. Grabiel. Her body was laid to rest in Live Oak cemetery at sunset, as requested by the deceased.
