    Aged Payne Resident Dies
    ...Funeral services for Martin M. Leeth, 83, retired mall carrier of Payne, who passed away March 31, was held Monday at the Church of Christ, with burial in Payne cemetery. Surviving are the wife, Louisa; three sons, Elbey of Louisville, Ky., Oscar of Ft. Wayne, and Emmett of Detroit; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Silvers of Ft. Wayne and one brother, Leven, of near Payne.

    Saturday evening a jolly crowd of young folks gathered at the home of Mr. and Mr. M. M. Leeth in honor of their daughter Miss Mae's 17th birthday. The home was beautifully decorated with yellow crepe paper and autumn leaves. Music and games formed the evening's entertainment and at 10:30 a delicious 2 course lunchen was served. Miss leeth was the recepient of a number of beautiful presents, among which was a ring given her by her many friends

    Rural Carriers Meet
    Friday evening, Oct., 3, the members of the Paulding County Rural Letter Carrier's Association held a meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Leeth in Payne, in honor of the retirement of Mr. Leeth from duty, after almost 28 years of service as rural mail carrier on Route One.
    A large number of carriers and their families from Van Wert and Defiance counties were also present, there being in all, 73 persons who enjoyed the bounteous supper which was served at 6:30 o'clock by the members of the Ladies' Auxiliary.
    Postmaster W. E. Lehman, in a very able manner, then presented to Mr. Leeth a beautiful smoking set, as a token of remembrance from the boys of the Payne post-office.
    A brief report of the business transacted at the National Convention, which was held at Detroit in August, was given by S. D. Mooney, who was a delegate from the Fifth District. Following this report a number of interesting talks were made by visiting post-masters and carriers.
    At a late hour all departed for their homes wishing Mr. and Mrs. Leeth a very happy "vacation."

    Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Leeth Celebrate Golden Wedding
    Only a few people live to observe their fiftieth wedding anniversary but such was the good fortune of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Leeth of North Main street.
    The day (Sunday, Oct. 13) was an ideal one and the celebration which had been so splendidly arranged by their children was perfect to the last detail. Their children, the grandchildren and one great-grandchild were present.
    Other dinner guests were Mr. Leeth's sister, Mrs. Mell Faucett and son, Don, of Walnut Grove, Elizabeth Ballinger of West Mansfield, O., Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Underwood Bellefontaine, O., Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hardesty of Paulding, Dr. K. C. Hardesty and family of Fort Wayne, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Leeth and children and Mrs. Lucy Underwood of Payne, Mrs. Ella Underwood of Fort Wayne.
    The home was beautifully decorated with flowers which were presented by loyal friends.
    In a very fitting presentation speech Emmett Leeth presented his parents with a floor lamp that represented the love and esteem of the children and their desire for a bright and happy future for their parents. Other valuable gifts were received.
    The community showed their esteem and respect by calling during the afternoon.
    Mr. and Mrs. Leeth have spent most of their life in and around Payne. They saw the county grow from a wooded unimproved country to one of the finest counties in the state. Mr. Leeth carried mail out of Payne for about thirty years.
    They have raised all their children to maturity and have never had the sorrow of death enter their home. They have been abundantly blessed in many respects and the entire community joins in wishing them many more happy and pleasant years.

    Mr. and Mrs. Martin M.     Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Leeth celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary last Thursday at their home on North Main street. Open house was held at their home in the afternoon for friends.
    The couple have four children, Mrs. Alvin Silvers of Forth Wayne, Oscar Leeth of Fort Wayne, Emmett Leeth of Detroit, Mich., and Clyde Leeth of Louisville, Ky. They also have ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    Mr. Leeth is 82 years old and Mrs. Leeth, 76. Both are lifelong residents of Payne. Mr. Leeth a retired mail carrier.

    Martin M. Leeth
    Martin M. Leeth, son of John and Nancy Leeth, was born in Pike county, Ohio, Sept. 2, 1860, and departed this life at Payne, Ohio, March 31, 1944, at the age of 83 years.
    He came to Paulding county with his parents during his early manhood.
    He was married to Louisa Jane Underwood, October 15, 1885. To this union was born five children, Elba Clyde of Louisville, Ky., Oscar R. Of Fort Wayne, Ind., Emmett O., of Detroit, Mich., and Ethel May Silvers of Fort Wayne, Ind.
    He has one brother, Leven Leeth of Payne, O., also ten grand-children and seven great-grand-children.
    Mr. Leeth united with the Church of Christ in 1883 while still a young man, under the ministry of C. A. Bartlett. He remained faithful to the church, serving in various capacities and was an elder at the time of his departure.
    He was a pioneer mail carrier of Payne, having served as a rural carrier for twenty-eight years. He was also a member of Flat Rock Lodge No. 580, F. & A. M.
    The funeral, in charge of Gerald Snyder, was held Monday afternoon at the Church of Christ, Rev. S. G. Cameron of Gibsonburg officiating. Burial in the Wiltsie cemetery.

    Obituary:

    Elba Clyde Leeth, 77, died at 4 a.m. Saturday at his home, 941 S. 22nd. He was a native of Payne, Ohio. He retired 12 years ago as an employee of Stitzel-Weller Distillery, Inc. He was a member of Virginia Avenue Methodist Church.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Nell Gilliland, three step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
    The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Owen Funeral Home, 2611 Virginia. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park.

    Emmett O. Leeth
    Emmett O. Leeth, the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Leeth, was born on December 24, 1892, at Payne, Ohio, and passed away on July 15 , 1953, at his home in Detroit following a lingering illness.
    Surviving are the mother, Mrs. M. M. Leeth of Payne: the wife, Nanabelle; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia McNio, Mrs. Mary Jane Yeo and Mrs. Leah Taylor, all of Detroit: two step-daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Sullivan and Miss Nancybelle Mitchell; one stepson, James Mitchell; two brothers, Oscar of Flint, Mich., and Clyde of Louisville, Ky; one sister, Mrs. Alvin Silvers of Payne; also six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Haley Funeral Home, Detroit, under the auspices of Loyalty Lodge No. 488, F. & A. The Rev. Oliver J. Collins was the minister. interment in White Chapel Cemetery.

    Mr. and Mrs. Martin M. Leeth quietly celebrated their fifth-fifth wedding anniversary, Tuesday They were honored at a family dinner at noon Sunday which was attended by the following members of the family: Emmett Leeth and daughter Mary Jane, Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan McNie and daughter Judith Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Knisely, all of Detroit, Mr and Mrs. Oscar Leeth, son Byron and daughter Patricia, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Leeth of Fort Wayne.
    Mr. Leeth is a retired mail carrier. Mrs. Leeth is the former Miss Louisa Jane Underwood. They have lived in Payne all their married life. Their children are Emmett Leeth of Detroit, Clyde Leeth of Louisville, Ky., Oscar R. Leeth and Mrs. Alvin Silvers of Ft. Wayne. They have ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
