    Milton Hormell, Civil War veteran, moved to California in 1873 where he had a mercantile business at Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. He was superintendent of Long Beach Development Company, and had a part in developing Long Beach as a famous resort community by the Pacific. Later joined his brother Lawson at Glendora in the orange industry. Milton Hormell was killed by an electric car at Willows.     OBITUARY
    ABSTRACT Died Nov. 4, 1903. "Coroner Trout this morning held an inquest on the body of Milton LaFetra, who was killed by the electric cars at Willow street yesterday and rendered a verdict in accordance with the facts as given yesterday. The body was prepared for burial at Walker & Brown's undertaking establishment and shipped this afternoon to Glendora, where the funeral services will be held tomorrow. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery, Los Angeles. Mr. LaFetra was 58 years of age and leaves a wife, son and daughter who will have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction."     Ira graduated at Ohio Wesleyan University 1872; appointed clerk in Treasury Department, Washington, D.C., by President Grant. Was graduated in Theological Department, B?oston University, and in 1878, sailed with the first party sent out by William Taylor to establish a self-supporting missionary work in Chile. The outgrowth of his work was the Union church and a mission school for boys at Santiago, Chile. His wife Adelaide (Whitfield) LaFetra, 1852-1916, founded Santiago College with her husband's assistance. These schools became noted educational institutions in Santiago, Chile. At last his health broke under the continued stress. In 1906 they retired to Glendora/Los Angelos, California and died there. He was a modest man, never heralding his deeds or seeking the praise of men.
