Charles graduated at the Spencerian Business Collge, Washington, D.D., and established a business College in Los Angeles, California, 1876; also taught in an institution which afterwards grew into the University of Southern California. In 1882 he joined his brothers at Glendora in the orange culture. He was an active worker in the Methodist Episcopal church and remained unmarried.
