In response to your query dated November 8 regarding Martin M. Harlan, I happy to say that he and his ancestors are covered in the Harlan book titled The History and Genealogy of the Harlan Family which is offered for sale in the Store - Book pages of this site.
The book states that Martin was born 4 Mo., 1837 in Marion County, Indiana; killed 7,19, 1864 at the battle of Rasaca, Ga in the Union Army; m. Ann Kelly, 4 Mo., 1857.
His father was Nathan Harlan # 2240, b. 1, 26, 1798 in Bracken County, Ky. He removed with his parents in 1811 to Fayette County, Ind and then in 1827 on to Marion County, d. there 10, 19, 1846. M. Martha Reid, b. 9, 7, 1799 in S.C., d. 9, 7, 1799 and bur. in Davis Burying Grounds.
The book actually shows all of Nathan's ancestors back to James Harlan, b. c1625.
I know that you will enjoy the book which is devoted to the Harlan families. There is, however no further word on Martin's children and descendants so if you have that information, which obviously you do, we would appreciate your sharing it with us. Please send that back to my attention and we will list you and your ancestors up to Nathan in the Cousin Pages of this Site and many thanks.
Larry Harlan
