OBITUARY
MRS. J. W. BECK
...Sustains Broken Hip Friday Morning Resulting in Her Death Saturday. Funeral Tuesday
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational-Christian church at Phillipsburg for Mrs. Viola Beck, 63, widow of the late J. Warren Beck, who preceded his wife in death January 4, 1941. Burial was made in the cemetery at Arlington.
...Mrs. Beck had been in declining health from a heart condition and complications for about seven years, being confined to her bed at intervals. She had recently been bed-fast and on Friday morning as her housekeeper, after attending to her needs, advised Mrs. Beck she would be out of the room to perform some other tasks for a short time, returned to find that her patient had gotten out of bed and fallen in her room, examination revealing a fractured hip as the result. The shock from this experience together with her frail body was more than she could overcome and death occurred at 9:30 Saturday morning. Her son, Erlin Beck of Homer, N. Y., had paid his mother a visit only a month ago. He arrived in Phillipsburg Monday to attend the last rites.
...Mrs. Beck was the older daughter of the late David W. And Esther Coate Elleman and of the nine children born to her parents, only one a brother, Francis Esty Elleman of Bradford, survives. Her marriage with J. Warren Beck was an event of January 30, 1877. One child Erlin, was born to them and survives his parents as does three grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.
...The Becks had been residents of the Phillipsburg community for about 30 years maintaining their home at the late location for a period of 27 years. They resided in Union township before taking up their residence in and about Phillipsburg and have many relatives and friends in this community who were saddened to learn of her demise and called to extend sympathy to the family and attended the last rites. Octogenarian Dies
Mrs. Samantha Viola Beck, 83, widow of J. Warren Beck, former Montgomery county representative in the state legislature, died at her home in Phillipsburg Saturday. She suffered a broken hip in a fall at her home Friday. Surviving is one son, Earl, of Homer, New York, former resident of the Lewisburg vicinity. Funeral services were held at Phillisburg Tuesday, with burial in the Arlington cemetery.
