LANCASTER COUPLE GO TO COVINGTON THIS MORNING
With Matrimonial Intentions - Will Reside With the Groom's Sister on Garfield Avenue.
...Nelson Smith an employee of the Hocking Flint Glass Company of 630 Garfield avenue, in company with Miss Muriel Colvin, daughter of Mrs. Sidney Colvin of East street, stole a march on their friends and eloped to Covington, Kentucky this morning with marital intentions.
...Both the young man and the young woman are of age, but they decided to make the trip to Kentucky in order that the former might escape being "kidded" by his factory friends.
...Yesterday afternoon Smith went to his foreman Chris Denning and asked for permission to be off work today.
..."What for?" asked Denning:
..."Why, I want to go down to Kentucky and get married like you did", said Smith, referring to the foreman's own trip to Covington not long ago.
...Denning granted Smith a day's leave of absence and promised to keep his secret until after his return home tonight. The young couple will make their home for the present with the groom's sister Mrs. W. J. Harris of Garfield avenue. [Source: Lancaster Daily Gazette, Lancaster, Ohio, 16 March 1916, pg. 7]
