OBITUARY
JUDGE LEETH
Passes Away After Long Illness.
...Judge Darius Leeth of the Probate court of this county answered the death summons Wednesday morning at 3 a. m., after a long illness from consumption.
...He was born in Pike county April 28th., 1846 and was therefore 57 years, 10 months and 23 days old at the time of his death. He grew to manhood in his native county but later he removed to Logan county where he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Wren. They came to Paulding county about 30 years ago and have since resided here. He leaves a wife and a large family of grown children to mourn his decease.
...Judge Leeth was a resident of Harrison township for many years where he held positions of trust repeatedly, always with fairness and fidelity. In 1893 he was favored by the Republican party with the nomination for probate judge and was elected by a large majority. Defeated for his second term by the narrow margin of 19 votes, his party again honored him with the nomination in 1899 and he was triumphantly elected and again re-elected in 1902. At the time of his death he was serving his third term in that important office with honesty, fidelity and popularity with the people.
...Judge Leeth was an honest, honorable, upright man. Voluminous could be written of his splendid character and exemplary life as a citizen without overdoing the subject. Judge Leeth's spiritual character is best illustrated by this brief paragraph kindly handed to us by his pastor:
..."Judge Leeth for a number of years was skeptical in regard to Christianity. Confused by the sects of Christendom and the various creeds, he had abandoned hope of understanding religious matters and had concluded that God did not require an open profession of men. But in 1896 under the preaching of Victor W. Dorris he was led to see that 'God calls all men everywhere to repent and turn to God.' Accordingly on Dec., 16th., of that year he was baptised in Christ by G. B. Townsend. He has been for a number of years a deacon in the Church of Christ in Paulding and died as he expressed himself, without fear, but sorry that he could not do more good in the world."
...The funeral will occur on Friday afternoon under the auspices of Widow's Son Lodge F. & A. M. Of which he was devoted member, from the Christian church, its pastor Rev. Chas. Darsie officiating and his remains will be interred in Live Oak Cemetery.
...The family have the true sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. (Paulding Democrat, March 24, 1904, page 7)

Funeral of Judge Darius Leeth
The funeral services of the late Judge Leeth were held in the Christian church last Friday afternoon at two o'clock. The weather was miserable, there being a steady down pour of rain, yet in spite of this fact the large auditorium of the church was filled by the friends of the deceased who thus showed the great love and respect in which the deceased was held. The services were beautiful and impressive. Rev. Darsie delivered an excellent funeral oration speaking plainly of the many beautiful traits of character that endeared Judge Leeth to the people. The floral offerings were rich and profuse and breathed a perfume of peace over the scene.
At the conclusion of the funeral sermon Widow's Son Lodge 571, F. and A. M., took charge of the services and conducted the last rites, concluding at the grave.
Those present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Martin Leeth of Payne L. E. Leeth of Payne, Wm. Wren of Ft. Wayne, Mr. Charles Wren and daughter Miss Nora of West Mansfield, Ohio.
