    • OBITUARY
      JUDGE LEETH
      Passes Away After Long Illness,
...Judge Darius Leeth of the Probate court of this county answered the death summons Wednesday morning at 3 a. m., after a long illness from consumption.
...He was born in Pike county April 28th., 1846 and was therefore 57 years, 10 months and 23 days old at the time of his death. He grew to manhood in his native county but later he removed to Logan county where he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Wren. They came to Paulding county about 30 years ago and have since resided here. He leaves a wife and a large family of grown children to mourn his decease.
...Judge Leeth was a resident of Harrison township for many years where he held positions of trust repeatedly, always with fairness and fidelity. In 1893 he was favored by the Republican party with the nomination for probate judge and was elected by a large majority. Defeated for his second term by the narrow margin of 19 votes, his party again honored him with the nomination in 1899 and he was triumphantly elected and again re-elected in 1902. At the time of his death he was serving his third term in that important office with honesty, fidelity and popularity with the people.
...Judge Leeth was an honest, honorable, upright man. Voluminous could be written of his splendid character and exemplary life as a citizen without overdoing the subject. Judge Leeth's spiritual character is best illustrated by this brief paragraph kindly handed to us by his pastor:
..."Judge Leeth for a number of years was skeptical in regard to Christianity. Confused by the sects of Christendom and the various creeds, he had abandoned hope of understanding religious matters and had concluded that God did not require an open profession of men. But in 1896 under the preaching of Victor W. Dorris he was led to see that 'God calls all men everywhere to repent and turn to God.' Accordingly on Dec., 16th., of that year he was baptised in Christ by G. B. Townsend. He has been for a number of years a deacon in the Church of Christ in Paulding and died as he expressed himself, without fear, but sorry that he could not do more good in the world."
...The funeral will occur on Friday afternoon under the auspices of Widow's Son Lodge F. & A. M. Of which he was devoted member, from the Christian church, its pastor Rev. Chas. Darsie officiating and his remains will be interred in Live Oak Cemetery.
...The family have the true sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.

      Second Obituary
      Judge Leeth's Obsequies,
...The funeral Judge Leeth occurred Friday afternoon at 9 p. m., in the driving rain that fell incessantly throughout the day. The ceremony was under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of this place and about seventy of the brethern were in line including members from Payne and Antwerp lodges. The sermon of Rev. Charles Darsie, pastor of the Christian church, was heard by an assemblage that packed the church betokening the exteem in which the deceased was held by the citizens of our town and county, a great many of the Judge's old friends and neighbors in the vicinity of Payne and Antwerp having braved the storm to participate in the last sad rites. The pastor's remarks were close to his subject and dwelt more upon the splendid life and character of our departed citizen than upon the future state.
...The Masonic rites were divinely impressive and beautiful and followed the remarks of Rev. Darsie. The services at the cemetery were made quite both by the pastor and the order on account of the driving rain that bent down upon the solemn assemblage.
...Of the visiting brethren from Payne there were; F. J. Wobler, F. M. Houser, N. E. Prentice, Levi Barrone, Harry Hyman, Hiram Underwood, Ira Graham, _____Knisely and_____Kerr. From Antwerp there were; J. H. Adcock, David Zuber, Jno. Paulson, A. R. Lacy, C. C. Jacobs, S. B. Harris, Byron Snook, Thos. Carr and James Chorpenning. Other out of town brethren were Hon. W. H. Hubbard of Defiance, H. B. Wilson of Van Wert, Amazon Routt of Haviland, E. P. Lacey, Antwerp and G. W. Cook, of Latty.
