George Ridge, farmer; P. O. Ft. Ancient; was born in Wayne Township, Warren County, Ohio, Nov. 21, 1828. His Parents, Simpson and Jemima (Hisey) Ridge, were natives of Berks County, Penn., and Shenandoah County, Va., respectively. His father was born Oct. 12, 1801, and his mother, Jan. 9, 1809. They were married June 10, 1825. Mr. Ridge came to this county, with his parents, Mahlan and Hannah (Hicks) Ridge, in 1817, where he died April 18, 1876. George passed his early life on his father's farm, and received his training in the common schools. He was married May 12, 1853, to Miss Eliza Williams, daughter of Thomas and Ann Williams, born in Wayne Township, Warren County, Feb. 10, 1834. They have three children, vis.: Jacob W., born April 11, 1854; Mary A., born Oct. 16, 1855 (wife of Lewis Meloy); and Anna A., born Jan.4, 1863. Mr. and Mrs. Ridge are members of the Freewill Baptist Church. Politically, Mr. Ridge is a Republican. He owns a farm of 160 acres, with good improvements. His parents, Simpson and Jemima (Hisey) Ridge, were natives of Berks Co, Penn., and Shenandoah Co., Va., respectively. His father was born Oct. 12 1801, and his mother, Jan. 9 1809. —Thursday, August 19, 1909 was the day set for the annual reunion of the Hisey families. It seemed as though all nature smiled down on us; it was an ideal morning for occasions of this kind, and a goodly number of the connections of this grand old family took advantage of the beautiful morning, and early began to gather at the old homestead, where the first of the Hisey family in this community settled. Joseph W. Hisey and wife now occupy this place.
—Over one hundred years ago the first family of Hiseys came and settled on this farm, two and one-half miles south of Waynesville. Twenty years ago this fall this family held their first reunion and each year since they have met. Each year we have one or more deaths to record, and each year we greet some that have not come before.
—Sarah A. Hamilton is the oldest representative of the family, her mother being Jemima Hisey Ridge. Early this pleasant morning the buggies, carriages and automobiles began driving in from all different directions. As each one came they were met by Joseph Hisey and wife and given a welcome that made each heart glad.

—The dinner was something never to be forgotten. It was remarked that day, that the Hisey ladies were noted for being good cooks, they most certainly proved themselves so, and as we gazed on the sight as they were seated at the dinner table and observed the good looking ones it was with pride we said "I am a member of this family." There were seventy-five or eighty in attendance.
—There were members of the family present from different places: John Kitchen, wife, son and daughter, Will Kitchen and wife, Mrs. Ida Wire and two daughters from Springfield; Isaac Thorne and daughter of Selma; Marshal Terry and wife, Joe Hisey and wife of Dayton; George Hamilton, Mrs. Opal Owens and son, Mrs. Mamie John and baby daughter of Xenia; Fremont Hormell and wife from Oakland; Corwin Hamilton and wife, of Bowersville; George Ridge and wife, of Clarksville; Harmon Dakin, wife and four sons, Mrs. Angie Dakin, of Lebanon; Two gentlemen and one lady by the name of Hisey from Covington, O., distant relatives of this family, also attended. Several neighbors and friends came in the afternoon.
—When dinner was over, the minutes of last year was read and the following officers elected: George Ridge, President; J. W. Hisey, Vice-President; Mary Mannon, Secretary; Albert Shutts, Treasurer. The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all, then came the watermelons which were excellent. And as the sun began to grow dim preparations began for starting to our different homes, each one expressing their pleasure at being there and promising to be there, the third Thursday in August 1910 at the same place. Goodbyes were said, as glad hands clasped and with a silent prayer in many hearts, that if not permitted to meet again here that we may be an unbroken circle in the great Reunion beyond, we parted. --M. Jacob Hisey was reared to manhood and married in Virginia, where he resided till the fall of 1818, when he, with his family, emigrated to Ohio and located in Warren County, in Wayne Township, and opened out right in the woods, living a true pioneer life, enduring all the hardships and deprivations of those early days. Mr. Hisey was a blacksmith, which trade he followed through life, employing others to do the work on the farm. He first settled on 60 acres of land, and from time to time added more to it by purchase till he became owner of 400 acres of good land; here he resided till his death. Mr. Hisey was a very industrious, economical man; one who started in life a poor man, but by his own labor and good management, became quite wealthy. They were parents of fourteen children, nine now survive--Jemima, now Widow Ridge; Hannah, now Mrs. Gard; Amelia, now Mrs. Carr; Rhoda, now Widow Harlan; Emiline, now Mrs. Harmell; Maria, now Widow Banes; Mary Jane, now Widow Terry; Christian and John. Jacob Hisey was a son of Christian Hisey, a native of Germany, who settled in the Shenandoah Valley, Va., in a early day. Jacob Hisey was born and grew to manhood there, and there married Emiline (Amelia?) Williamson. In the year 1816, he moved with his family to Ohio and settled in East Wayne Township, Warren County, where he purchased a small tract of land, which he cultivated in connection with working in and carrying on a blacksmith shop for many years. He raised a large family of children, and lived to see all those who survive well settled in life. By the industry and frugality of himself and wife, besides raising his family he acquired a considerable amount of property. He was for many years a member of the Free-Will Baptist Church, and was a worthy and exemplary member, and contributed liberally for the support of the church of his choice. In October, 1854, his wife, the partner of his younger and advanced years, departed this life. He was again married, and at his death left a widow. He departed this life May 6, 1870, age 84 years, at peace with all mankind, and in full hope of a blissful immortality--the noblest work of God, an honest man. I Jacob Hisey of the County of Warren and State of Ohio Being now of sound memory and disposing mind do make and publish this my last will
Item 1st - After my death it is my will that all my just debts and funeral expenses be fully paid.
Item 2nd - There is a marriage contract existing between myself and my wife Susan Hisey (late – Susan Kindle) which I have fully paid. Should the she survive me I give and bequeath to he (sic) fifty Dollars.
Item 3d - After my death I direct that my Executors here after named or the survivor of them Sell and dispose of all my property both real and personal without appraisement or valuation either at public or private-sale and either for cash, or upon such terms of credit as they shall deem best for all concerned and for any or all real estate by them sold, whether it shall be whole or divided tracts I hereby authorize them to execute necessary and sufficient deeds and deliver them to the purchasers for the same .
Item 4th - After my estate has been reduced to money I direct that my executors shall divide the proceeds among all my children that may be living and the heirs of those that have died and the heirs of any one that may be dead one share) share and share alike. After deduction the costs, charges and expenses.
Item 5th - I hereby constitute and appoint my sons Joseph Hisey and John Hisey Executors of this my last Will and I direct that they shall not be required to give Security in accepting the trust.

The Gazette also contains a notice of the death of Jacob Hisey, who came to Ohio in 1817. He died on the 6th of the present month. He was the father of fourteen children, ten of whom are still living.
