The old farmhouse had gas lights, a crank telephone and a tin roof with no insulation. During the hot summer months a summer porch provided a welcome relief for the young boys while sleeping; it was cooler than the upstairs bedroom.

NOTE: The Caesar's Creek valley was impounded in 1978 by the Army Corps of Engineers to assist with flood control in the Little Miami River watershed. The Hormell farm was in the path of the newly formed lake.

    Memories: by Pat Hormell
Anna was a very good cook. The grandchildren looked forward to a visit on the farm and grandmas home cooked meals. She made her own cottage cheese and butter, and fried fresh chicken in the butter. The Hormells produced and sold maple syrup. Maple syrup was the sweetener of choice in their home; even on hand cranked ice cream.
When grandma Hormell visited us she would sit in front of our aquarium and watch the fish for hours; she thought they were fascinating. She was small in stature and quiet.

    HISEY REUNION
Thursday, August 19, 1909 was the day set for the annual reunion of the Hisey families. It seemed as though all nature smiled down on us; it was an ideal morning for occasions of this kind, and a goodly number of the connections of this grand old family took advantage of the beautiful morning, and early began to gather at the old homestead, where the first of the Hisey family in this community settled. Joseph W. Hisey and wife now occupy this place.
Over one hundred years ago the first family of Hiseys came and settled on this farm, two and one-half miles south of Waynesville. Twenty years ago this fall this family held their first reunion and each year since they have met. Each year we have one or more deaths to record, and each year we greet some that have not come before.
Sarah A. Hamilton is the oldest representative of the family, her mother being Jemima Hisey Ridge. Early this pleasant morning the buggies, carriages and automobiles began driving in from all different directions. As each one came they were met by Joseph Hisey and wife and given a welcome that made each heart glad.

MILTON JOHN HORMELL, physician, Oakland, was born October 8, 1820, in Warren County, about five miles north of Lebanon. His parents were Henry and Margaret Hormell. He received the rudiments of an education in a district school, and afterward attended the Harveysburg Seminary, for about two years, where he completed a higher course of study. When about twenty-one years of age, he began the study of medicine with Dr. Corlis, of Harveysburg, with whom he remained as a student for about three years. After completing his course of study he bean to practice, which he did successfully for about five years in both Warren and Clinton Counties. He then attended the Ohio Medical University, at Cincinnati. From which institution he graduated in 1853. He resumed the practice of his profession, with headquarters at Harveysburg, Warren County, where he remained until 1860, in which year he removed to Clinton County, Chester Township, near Oakland, and attended to the duties of his profession.
