Margery Alcott was the widow of Thomas Alcott of Dedham when she married John Benham. This was the second marriage for John. The name of John's first wife is unknown, but she was the mother of all his children. Margery died soon after they settled in New Haven

He was of Boston, according to Jacobus; of Dedham according to Savage. john must have gone to Boston to marry her, for we find this even in BOSTON TOWN RECORDS (Appleton, I:77.) his sons, too, got their wives at Boston.
