Lawrence Maxwell
Wolcottville — Lawrence Edward Maxwell, 82, of rural Wolcottville, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday in Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne. He had been ill the past three years and a patient in Sacred Heart Home in Avilla the past week.
He was born in Payne, Ohio, Dec. 17, 1910, the son of Frank L. and Ethel (Leeth) Maxwell. On Jan. 26, 1933 in Fort Wayne, he married Dorothy Olive Roy, who survives.
Mr. Maxwell had resided on the LaGrange-Noble County Line Road near South Milford since 1954, moving from Fort Wayne. He retired in 1974 from M. H. Hilt of Fort Wayne, carpenter and refrigeration contractors, for whom he had worked since 1945. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville, Americana Legion Post 178 in Garrett, Kendalville VFW and Carpenters Local 232 in Fort Wayne. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Karen Slone of Winona Lake; two sons, Edward Maxwell of Fort Wayne, and Roger Maxwell of Kendallville; three sisters, Arvada Ruble of Kendallville, Helen Spangler of Taveres, Fla., and Marguerite Talmadge of Adrian, Michi.; three brothers, Harlan Maxwell of Jacksonville, Fla., Gerald Maxwell of Coesse, and Dallas Maxwell of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Lester, Norbert and Romay Maxwell, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jacob Gall officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home, Kendallville, with the Rosary recited there at 7;45 p.m. Sunday.
Preferred memorials are Masses to the church or to CompreCareHome Health.
