Henry Hormel Merritt
Henry Hormel Merritt was born in Warren County, Ohio, on November, 23, 1827, and died at the home of his son, E. C. Merritt, in North Manchester, Indiana, March 23, 1906, aged 78 years and four months.
On October 8, 1850, he was united in marriage to Rebecca J. Lewis, and to this union was born two sons and one daughter. One son and the daughter died in infancy. The wife died May 5, 1883
Mr. Merritt was a resident of Warren County until the year 1884, when, with his son and family, he removed to Miami County, Indiana, where he resided fifteen years when he again removed with his son and came to North Manchester, where he remained until his death.
Mr. Merritt leaves besides his son, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother and other relatives and friends to mourn his death. In early life he united with the Methodist church in Red Lion.
He was kind and loving father, always having a good word for those he met. His convictions blossomed into deeds, and while his loss I deeply mourned, there is greatest comfort in the thought that he is numbered among those of whom it is said, "These are they which came out of great tribulations, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb."
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. A. Hopkins and were held at the residence of E. C. Merritt at 10 o'clock Monday morning. Burial in Oak Lawn cemetery.
Those attending the funeral from out of town were Eri Gustin and wife, of Denver, C. Bunnell, of DeLong, Miss Nell Bunnell, Henry Kirchner and wife, Hezekiah Tombaugh, of Rome.--Eri Gustin.
