Maurice was an avid reader. He graduated from Springboro High School, excelling in History. It was important that he earn immediately. He became employed as a bill collector in Dayton, Ohio, riding to his house calls on a bicycle. He went to Tulsa, Oklahoma and there joined the U.S. Cavalry. During World War I, he was sent to Hawaii for training, rising from Private to First Lieutenant. While there, his younger brother became ill at home and his concern for family needs brought him home. Upon his return to Ohio, he married and entered the vulcanizing business in Urbana, Ohio, where he and his wife made their home. They were companions in their activities and interest.
Maurice was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He was the Republican Chairman for Champaign County, (Ohio). He was a highly respected citizen and a successful business man.
On a trip to Akron, Ohio to visit friends, his car was side swiped by an intoxicated driver and both he and Gladys were instantly killed. their double burial was a symbol of their togetherness in life.
