Mary Hormell, daughter of Henry and Eleanor Lee Hormell, married John Ross about 1806. He was born near Brownsville, Pa. around 1778. His father, Alexander Ross was killed early in the Revolution. John Ross fought against the Indians in 1812. John and Mary Hormell Ross lived for 24 years near Lebanon and Cincinnatti, Ohio before moving to the State of Indiana. Jhn Ross was a boat builder by trade. They had twenty-one 21 grandsons who served in the Civil War. This information came from Mrs. Benjamin Smith (gr gr granddaughter of Henry Hormell) who was living at 1121 N. Hunter St., Stockton?, Calif. at the beginning of World War II. she also writes that Henry Hormell received a pension for serving in the Revolutionary War. His wife, Eleanor Lee Hormell, was cousin of Richard Lee of Virginia. Nothing more is known of this family. [Source: Gillis, W. Floyd, ""Hormell Family", pg. 13]
