Squire Isaac Thompson died in the cholera epidemic in California in the autumn of 1850. His wife Charity died the previous year in 1849, and perhaps with the lure of the Gold Rush in California, he set off to find his fortune.
He was 65 years old, buried in a mass grave, Tier 5, #274, recorded in Vol B, Historic Sacramento City Cemetery. His will and probate records are recorded in Cass Co, MI 1851-1855. There is a memorial marker in the cemetery where his wife and two children are buried in Cass Co, MI.
