Little did I know, when I started compiling a family tree, that it would be the beginning of a new hobby. I also discovered that I didn't know much about my ancestors... and so the journey began. I found new cousins, discovered ancestors I didn't know about and even found a long ago grandmother that was accused of witchcraft.
While you are exploring our Tangled Roots I hope you find something you are searching for and learn something new about your heritage.
We are glad you stopped by for a visit and hope you come back often... you never know when something might change!
NOTE: A big Thank You to all who have shared information, photos or tips. Your help is very much appreciated and you have added so much to my research.

They were the Ancestors. . . . .
They came from many lands and spoke many languages. They traveled with family and friends, to a wilderness, where wildlife and streams were plentiful, timber abundant, and the plains fertile. They cleared the land, planted crops and built a home. They survived the floods, the droughts, the diseases and the wars. They organized towns and established laws, married their neighbors and raised a family.
. . . . . The wilderness was Ohio.

Winifred, the Witch of Wallingford Winifred (King) Benham accused of witchcraft.
The trial was held at a 'Special County Court by order of Governor, held at New Haven August 31, 1697.' The accused were: Winnifred King Benham, age 58, Wallingford and Winnifred Benham Jr, age 13, Wallingford. They were accused by: Wallingford Children; John Moss 3rd, son of John Moss Jr. and Sarah Lathrop Moss; Elizabeth Lathrop, age 19; and Sarah Clark, age 16. The three teenagers testified that "they were frequently and sorely afflicted in their bodies by the said Benhams, mother and daughter or theire Apparicon and as they strongly suspect by their means or procurance by the Devil in their shapes." The court said that the death of a young child should be inquired into "with what appeared as spots on said child and the like spots on the said Benham quickly vanishing," and this time the court found "clear and sufficient ground of suspicion against them" and bound them over for trial at the next Court of Assistants in October.

Most Wanted I think some of my ancestors are hiding in a witness protection program! Maybe you can help me find one of those with little details, or provide a clue where to look.
Mystery Photos Some of the Mystery Photos are from a scrapbook that belonged to my grandmother. Others are from the collections of our parents. In most cases the name of the person or persons in the photo are not known to us, and there is nothing written on the back. Browse through the photos... one of your ancestors might be waiting for a visit, and if by chance a face looks familiar we would love to hear from you.
